2001 summit 800 silencer problem Options

i have a 2001 summit 800. i baught a mbrp trail silencer from a guy and i looked at the numbers on the silencer and it shows it goes to a 2001. i tried to put it on but it doesnt fit. could my sled possibly be a late model 2001 and really be an 2002.the vin on the sled shows its an 2001. i see a couple guys say there where two different silencers for that year. since it doesnt fit should i find a silencer for a 2002 or what?

if vin says 01 its an 02 just like todays trucks are 2010's but its 2009

01 &02 ran a little different shaped pipe & muffler the 01 stuff wont fit 02's very well with out some choppin'. now on it was either 01 or 02 i cant remember, they did put the model yr. on the tag as well as the date of manufacture, so if its a 02 the date of manufacture would be 01 if it's a 01 then it would be 2000

You say you have a 2001 sled, so your plate on the tunnel must say 2001, but manufactured in 2000, is that the case? If so, then if the can says its for a 2001, I don't know if a 2002 will fit any better. I presume you know what year sled you have without looking at the plate, but look or post a pic of your sled if you're unsure. I don't want you selling this and buying one for a 2002 when you have a 2001, you will likely have the same or worse problems with the 2002 can fitting your 2001 than you did the 2001 can.

If the only reason you think you have an 01 is the VIN on the plate, then yah as alluded to above, you may well have an 02. In that case you better change your user info for future questions as people assume what you're asking relates to that info, in case you forget to specify in your post.

there is no plate on my sled for some reason. i looked at the online manual and it says the 10th digit in the vin is what year it is. the 10th digit in the sled is a 1 so i am assuming from what you guys say it is a 2002 manufactured in 2001. the silencer doesnt even come close to lining up with the two bolts for the silencer and the hole is off by a couple inches.

Thats not always the case. If the VIN says it is an 01, it is an 01. And as far as the trucks, the come out with the 2010's in 2009, but is still a 2010. The door tag may say 11/09, but the VIN still reflects it is a 2010. There may be a split in 2001 where some used different style cans, but that would be considered like a 2001 1/2, it is not a 2002. Go by the numbers on the sled.

I was thinking the same, but then assumed he meant that if the plate says it was built in 01 (as opposed to the plate saying it was an 01 model or the VIN implying it was on 01 model), then it's an 02. Again, it would be best if we saw a pic, so long as the sled has all stock graphics/colours/features (like controls and guages), we should be able to tell. Or he can just go to the Ski-Doo website and check the older models and compare his to those.

i will have to get some pics of it but if your saying no it is a 2001 then why doesnt the siliencer fit. it doesnt even come close to fitting. the outlet hole looks like it nees to be moved and the can hits the chaincase. like i said there is no number plate on the sled just a vin number. ive double checked to make sure the silencer is a 2001 silencer and it is.

i was looking on the ski doo website at the 2001 and 2002 models. the only thing from the picture that is different is the plastic piece that goes over the headlight on the 2002 and makes it look like theres two lights. mine has the piece over the headlight. other than that i dont see any difference. i forgot maybe this matters but mine is a highmark.
