I have an 08 mxzx 800r looking for clutching options that wont break the bank?

I know from searching that the 08 was lacking in the clutch area. I also know that the 09 was better. I found that howards didn't make a stage 1 kit for the 09 because it was so much better.

Sooo... is it worth doing or just save up and do a $300+ kit? The kits are just so expensive for a couple hunks of metal but I realize allot of work go's into figuring them out and the guys deserve money for there time. If I did go with a kit I'm leaning towards a howards but I do 85% trail ride and 15%lake and would take any suggestions on that also.

There are a couple xp 800r's in my area and just don't want to end up with the "slow" one. Ya know what I mean. Thanks for any sugestions!

Your lowest cost route would be to install a pin kit and add weight.
Add weight with clicker in 2 or 3 untill your tached at 8100 - 8200 RPM. (Test)
Get the Dess Reset done. You could be running in limp mode and your dash won't tell you.
I prefer the 09 secondary specs.

by the time you buy a stock 09 or 2010 helix, and springs you will probly be close to 2hundred might as well save a little more and get a kit

Make sure your clutch alignment is as close as you can get it. All the clutch kits in the world won't fix an alignment problem. Some of the 08's were out of manufacturing tolerance and the clutches were out of alignment right from the factory. Also the secondary brace was updated on the 09 with a stronger design. Some were breaking and the amount of flexing under load was excessive.

Thanks for the info.

have the shim kit installed and the secondary brace along with 4 wheel kit and cleaned exhaust valves, just trying to get the sled reliable before anything else.

But $170-180 is still 200 less than full blown kit? How much difference are you guys getting between the 09stock and a kit?

plus you should still get a adjustable pin kit if you want to increase performance so thats another added75$ i think

i would look at the 2010 stuff tho before the 09 stuff sure they improved again

I've checked the update book at my dealer, no changes for 2010.

Huhh? "other things" Hum? I'm betting yours isn't "the slow one" Haha...I should have dumped the sled wrap $$ into a clutch instead so I can keep up huh?? I'm sure I read some where that wraps give you extra HP and more top end...just like racing stripes on a car right?? LOL. I'll keep an eye out in the classifieds here, if all else fails I'll go new.

When it's time to install I'll have to get a hold of ya and do a post of the install... if the offers still good?

I wouldn't even bother to fiddle with stock clutching parts out of a 2009 or 2010....your best bang for the buck is a clutch kit from a known tuner and your done. It will out run any stock clutching calibrations and thats a fact. I've had great luck with Dynamoe Joes clutch kits....
