I like the j hitch better than stock hitches, I have terrable lick with hitch pins. All though last year i straightened a j hitch on my skandic. I bought mine off ebay for about 20 bucks for a factory ski doo hitch.

All sleds come with a J-hitch in Sweden. I tow a lot and often very heavy loads, + 1500 kg (3300 lb). I often have my family as "cargo" also.
The J-hitch is okay but I would like a more sophisticated mechanism to improve riding comfort (if towing people), and driving comfort.
On ATV's in Sweden we use a more car-like hitch with much higher precision and I think that would suit a snowmobile too.

The rigid "car like" hitch is great for pull comfort but in certain conditions if/when you get stuck and canīt move either snowmobile or sled in any direction it can be almost impossible to loosen the hitch as easy as it is with a j- hitch.
In other words the machine and sled/tobbogan gets to be one heavy unit to loosen instead of two separate ones

i agree this problem occurs even with j hitches sometimes.↲
maybe its the best solution after all.

rather than a 'J' hitch (which I've also managed to jam, and tends to not be that strong) for grooming I use either a 5th-wheel style ball hitch with a gooseneck, or I use a "pin" hitch- basically two metal plates with holes you run a hitch pin through (not a small pin, a 7/16 piece of steel rod or larger). Weight keeps it in nicely, and the tractor ones I pick up have handles:) The groomer side is the same as a J hitch - a loop. I can get images sometime if anyone is interested.

I've tried them all, including the ball and coupler hitch. I much prefer the tongue hitch for everything but grooming, for that application I take the ball and coupler.

Thanks for all of the information and comments.....I guess I need to buy a cargo sled that is compatible with the J-hitch or get a welder to weld some sort of circular end on a cargo sled that has a tongue hitch (i.e., Canadian Tire's boggans)....

Anyone that has a brand name or has purchased one in Ontario, let me know....

Thanks in advance.

Heres another one people sled, They are pretty easy to make, 1/2 or 5/8, long bolt Some old car valve springs and the loop part i just buy cable clamp, toss the nuts and saddle keeping the loop. Cut a pc, angle iron drill hole in it, Throw washer on the bolt and load the springs in there where you want and how many, shove it though the hole another spring and cap it with the loop part.
