Interesting to see that someone else has experienced some problem as well.

4500 miles and no problems i do take it apart after every season clean and lub and reinstall per specs. ultimax 3 blet with 3500 miles.

Hey, I'm the guy who started this mess..... YE59.gif, back in 2003.

The spacer is 1 inch round bar that is 1.125" in length. Drill a 5/16" hole through the center. Chamfer one end to allow the splines in the secondary to move over the spacer. Remove about 1/8" worth of shims from between the secondary and bulkhead bearing. I remove the big black dust cover over the bulkhead bearing other wise it just rattles around. This will give you 1/4" total float movement. Its not rocket science, its just a spacer..... Mine sell for $20 US shipped and they are the original....not the copy..... The new ones I now sell are the white delrin ones...

cheers

Just curious as to why the material change? I bought yours several years ago and I love it! Just plain makes sense...

I forwarded this thread to a bud who initially didn't want to spend the few bucks for one. But now he will never buy/install one since he has read that some MAY be having issues that the splines are perhaps wearing and there has been breakages of the shaft at the spline, at least on really high milage sleds. Me, I will be running the spacer till I drop dead. I have over 4000 miles with it and my splines look like new.

I like mine as well. Help cust down on my belts for sure. My splines are all good, I have always used grease on mine regarless as well. Just a good practice in general, had a few old ones get stuck real bad back in the day, from there forward i greas them well with a heavy grease every season.

I am also courious as to why the new ones are plastic now, or are the plastic?

Do you see much of an improvement when doing this? ie less heat ,better belt life etc?

I purchased one last year, ran it the hole season same amount of belt dust as I had before without it. And it also seems that my secondary seems sloppier on the shaft.
IMO dont worry about it!
