I'm considering adding a Full Body Skid Plate and A Arm protectors to my Tundra 2009 LT 550F to improve deep snow performance and float. Has anyone tried these upgrades? I would like to know if performance will really be improved or just my dealers bottom line. Plse adv and thanks,

Norm

its a big improvement i suggest using the rev plate and modify it by cutting the sides off the top it offers much better flotation i think almost everyone here that has a rf has a skid plate

Hi Swisher,

I'm going to wait to install my "not so full bodied" standard skid plate until I see how yours turns out and if you solve the clearance issues. I assume you would have to tilt and compress one side fully to know. I saw Luman's writeup but never saw a post that he resolved those possible issues. I assume you will still use the A-Arm protectors. I'm looking forward to the pictures.

I'm also wondering if the bar from the standard kit could be used. It seems like the bar would keep the cut down rev plate from getting into the steering when it flexes in firm snow. I.E. I'm thinking I could use some of the kit with a rev plate possibly. But, then again, the bar is most of the weight.

TDM,
If you look through Hacksaw's thread, he shows the part number for the center metal "Thong" you speak of. You can order it buy itself instead of the whole RF skid plate kit. I know you have the metal piece already but for future sleds.
I don't do nearly as much off trail as you so I am not installing it. It seems rigid enough for me without it.
I believe Hacksaw installed the REV plate with the metal "Thong" on his sleds.

I only have the "thong bar" on the orange Freestyle. I originally had the RF chassis skid plate, but removed it once I saw catdogs original idea of using the REV plate for more protection and better flotation. I left the thong bar on as some else suggested...I think it was Luman, if I'm not mistaken. The "Protector Tube", as BRP calls it, carries the part number 502006838. I don't know if it's still available, as I never tried to track down two more since I had already slapped yellow REV plates on the other two Freestyles and didn't feel like removing them. I still have the 3 plastic pieces of the RF skid kit in ORANGE if anyone is interested in taking them off my hands for cheap.

Here's the link to post #24 of my thread showing a picture of the "Thong"
RF Chassis "Thong Bar"

I like the look of the REV plate without trimming it, so I'm just gonna leave mine the way it is...

Hacksaw.

Hi,

My main concern is if there is enough motion for the A-arms to do full movement without conflict with the rev skid plate. I was looking at Luman's post and he mentioned needing some spacers. I was also looking at my machine and the further away you get from the "thong" the more reach the A-Arms have when in a twisting situation. One way to get an idea would be to ride it through a ditch at a bind angle but even that may not fully flex the arms. I like the way it looks and it would definitely add some front end float. But, before I pay $95 would like to be sure it will not conflict with the A-Arms when riding in super tough conditions. Any feedback on that possible issue from anyone who has the rev plate would be appreciated.

Thanks! ohmy.gif

Although the plastic of the A-arm protectors touch the REV plate when the suspension is fully relaxed and hanging, the plate doesn't impede the A-arms' articulation that I can tell. Maybe the Freestyles' shorter A-arms make a difference?

I'll get some good pics on Wed. The skid plate fits good with no clearance issues at all. There is at least 1.5" between the plate and arms at full extention.

It looks really good Swish. You're a true perfectionist and it shows in the quality of your cutting of the plate. Can't even tell.right_on.gif
