most people buy backcountry's for deep snow off-trail riding, in other words "backcountry" riding. Tall windshields like to funnel deep snow into the operators face, I wouldn't recommend one unless you doo the majority of your riding on-trail with your rear end on the seat, but in that case why would you purchase a backcountry to begin with?

Not all of us live in AK. Most of us that purchased Backcountry X's in new england have to ride a ways on the trails to get to the "backcountry". We are not mountain riders, just trail riders who like to play in the fields, and not freeze before we get there. This has always been an issue with the XP, it is very cold to ride! I can see your point though.

I ride in some cold areas and i would say no to the tall windshield, if you have good gear u won't get cold, also if anyone has ever found themselves in the wrong riding position coming off a steep ledge or something like it, you find out fast that the tall shield in the throat hurts like a headbang.gif

If your ride is that far away that you get cold I question also the use of a backcountry....with that big 1.75 track there will be at least one thing warm on the sled..your melting sliders.

Never had a problem with 1.75 lug track wearing out sliders. Extra wheel kit and scratchers do the trick! Tall windshield is my preferance as I am 6'6" tall and there is no way that the teeny bikini that is called a windshield is sufficient. It seems to be the rage with all manufacturers now and unless your freestyle of mtn riding the claim that the windshield gets in the way is bull crap!!!!!

You prove our points exactly. If you need to hide behind a windshield to be warm than you probably don't need an 1.75 track, because if you are riding in areas that require such a track you will probably be standing up and moving around. I am generally sweating hot while riding because of all the moving around, and I sure as heck don't see anyone sitting down for more than ten seconds.
