I'm buying a new backcountry renegade and I would like to stud the track. It comes with a 16"x 137" x 13/4" Powdermax track. Has anybody studded this track, and if so what did you use and how did the track hold up?

this is a off-trail track, why would you want to put studs in it.as soft as the lugs are on the powdermax track,i think you would bend or break studs very easily.the 1.75" ripsaw would be a better canidite for studs because of the firmer lugs.

I'd like to stud the track because I frequently have to travel the lakes in western Maine to get to the good riding spots. The lake tend to be ice skating rink and the studding is a must. Also trail riding to get to the good spots can tend to be hard and icy.

If it was on an 06 Gade X that was me laugh.gif

& yes, I used Woody's 1.86" snowcross studs... if you're going to use them on a single-ply track, stud in pairs with double backers & use the x-tra tall nuts... the snow-X studs only have a 15/16" head.

02mxz - There's a lot of places over here where studs are a necessary evil... especially late-season... unless you enjoy tree bark for lunch... ask anyone that's come off ITS-82 down into Dixfield in mid March... that stretch is littered every season with bumper pieces, mirrors, etc.

kkfree - We'll be at Snodeo this season, Thurs thru Sunday... at the Town & Lake.

Thanks Dix. We run the lakes up to Bosebucks and beyond and studs are a must. We have a place on Mooselook so we always go to Snowdeo. Lots of fun. Is the track you studded a powdermax and how many studs did you use? Thanks again.

sorry to hijack but I am waiting for a sample stud from SnowStuds which is a 1.875 stud for a single ply. I run a summit 146 and am changing my track to either a Ripsaw lite 1.75 or a Challanger lite 2". I might stud the 2" track as the softer lugs may bend a bit and allow a bit of purchase with the 1.875's. I figure these should dig in a little bit for traction althought the 1.75 would get the best bite. You should be fine with either track as I would think the studs would also help support the track on your sled. We deffinately need them here in Maine. See you on the trails

Hey, I'm right off RT.17 just passed Coo's Canyon but before Houghton. There is a trail ya know that will keep you off the lakes that goes to Bosebuc.

I'd ride that before picking my track.

For us the fastest way is riding the lakes, and I found studs in the spring are a must on the trails. I've been on Mooselook in the spring and if you didn't have studs it was near imposible to run safely. Which trail are you talking about to Bosebuck?

The one that heads out of Oquosic across the swinging bridge. Lots of wildlife to see or watch out for that way, not to mention it's also the same way to the "boarder cut". There is the most challenging off trail I have ever ridden with steep and deep mostly after fresh snow, and talk about spring ridding that has to be one place that has the latest.

We'll have to meet up. I'm on the hill in Byron right behind angel falls.

I know the trails out of Oquossoc it's 10 miles quicker for us if we run the lakes. Our camp is on the far end of Mooselook by Bemis stream. Your right the border cut it some of the best riding in the area. In the spring we trailer to tim pond road and go in from there. We met a bunch of guys from Wallingfords equipment up at the cut last year and they are the ones that sold us on the new gade e-tecs. My cousin bought a left over 09 from them and I bought a 2010 backcountry from Oquossoc Marine because they would take my trade. So if you see two nuts on new gades this winter that will be us. I'm going to try the track without the studs for the winter but I know come spring time I'll miss them.

The track I use is a 16x137x1.75 single-ply Camoplast Challenger 2.86" (XP) pitch... I put 2.86" pitch drivers on from the 06-07 440 race sled.

I used a 2-3-2-3 pattern (120 on a 137" XP Track)... next time I'll use a 2-2-2 or 4-0-4 pattern with double-backers as I've had a couple pullouts with the single-ply track & 15/16" head studs... double backers would likely have prevented that... either that or a stud with a larger head.

If the studs ME-renegade mentioned have larger heads (bigger than 1" - I would assume they would) I'd go with those... I was going to use FastTrac's Top Gun II as they have 1-1/32" heads, but I got a steal on the Woody's so I took a chance.

SnowStuds Warthog XZP has a 1" head.

These seem like they would work. I have asked them to send me a sample of 1.875 so I can take a look at it and see how its actuall measure is from the surface of the track so I can get actual length. I hope I can run these with the Camo Challanger Lite track 15x2" vs the Rip Lite 15x1.75". I will post back when I get this and let you guys know what I think of length and quality.

I'll probably run into you guys up that way as well this winter. I ride mostly around The Loaf but try to ride your area from time to time. Bowsbuck (sp) is awesome.

Yea, let us know what you find when you can lay eyes on 'em... most interesting measurement for me would be the diameter of the head... I'd like to see around 1-1/8".

These studs look interesting. Any idea what the diference is between a single bull and double system?
